60s Fake Pearl Retractable Mechanical Pencil Brooch Mod Glam Novelty Chain Pull Spring Plastic

Is someone always taking your pen or pencil? This is a glam and efficient way to find a writing implement, when you need one! These novelty retractable pencils ( and pens) were probably developed in the 20's, but became more common in the 40s-60s. This is made in Japan, so I am dating it late 50's early 60's, as it has a bit of a MOD look to it, too. Works well enough, pencil mechanics are good, chain sometimes sticks a bit. There is a metal ring that is supposed to make the retraction smoother, but it has come loose. see close up. Maybe it can be reattached by a jeweler. Pin works well. Nurses and teachers love these, but this one is quite glamorous too! At maximum length, chain is 14 " long. Pencil is 4 inches long, and the pin part is an inch wide, with a half inch dome. I will be posting a red and silver one soon. I have seen them listed from about $15-$50.
