For a basic black fabric pillbox style hat, this one from Merrimac Hat Corporation tops them all. You can add a brooch as an accent, a fabric flower, a bit of trim or wear it as is. It is 2 inches tall and 8 inches across. Inside there is an elastic band to help hold the hat on your head. That elastic is meant to go behind your head, under your hair. When you don't need the elastic it can be tucked inside the hat.
