Edwardian/Victorian Onyx And Diamond Mourning Ring Octagonal 14k Y G
It's a nice size on its own or for mixing with other rings. The onyx is so shiny that it acts like a mirror and reflects everything.
Measurements
ring size: 4
face, north-south: 9/16 inch (for the onyx; the bezel is about 1mm all the way around)
face, east-west: 7/16 inch (same point about the bezel)
The diamond is a melee size, about 1 mm--but it looks larger because it is in a setting of white gold.
Rings in this style were also made during the 1920s with less of a mourning purpose, but those were almost entirely white gold.
This ring is unmarked ... Well, if you look at the band, you'll see some triangles that look as if they could be a jeweler's hallmark. I have examined them under loupes and all sorts of magnification, and I have concluded that the wearer's young child probably nibbled on the edge of the band. I sort of like the personal touch.
This tests at close to 14K, according to my jeweler--so, more than 12 but not a full set of fireworks for 14.
From a nonsmoking, pet-loving environment.
