10s/20s 18k White Gold Ring Band Historic Jeweler Art Deco By J R Woods & Sons
Good condition, size 7.
J.R. Woods and Sons was one of THE go-to jewelers for a century starting in 1850. Their hallmark followed a stamp of the gold content, and it was a sideways W. You'll see in the last photo that what you have here is indeed such a ring. They retired the W around 1930, so we can comfortably date this ring to the 1920s or possibly 1910s.
This is a classic, beautiful ring, and somebody has worn it. You can see traces of a texturing design on the band--perhaps flowers or a stylized wheat design--but now I would say the design is clouds, or memories, or dreams of the future. If you want a wedding band with a good karat content and a sense of continuity with the past, this is the perfect piece for you.
Also makes a great stacking band, of course, or a token for an anniversary. It seems to have been worn for years--and then it was tucked away into a safety deposit box. Now is your chance to give her a new life and to cherish what she is.
Width is about 2 mm. I do my best to be precise, but we are limited by our tools and our eyesight. It is a standard width for a lady's ring.
From a nonsmoking, pet-loving environment.
