This is a lovely brown ribbed silk bodice ca. 1850s. The bodice has a high crew neckline and buttons up the front with brown satin-covered buttons with little velvet centers. The shoulders are sloped in that early Victorian style with pointed brown satin details over the shoulders and into the bust. The bodice has long straight sleeves and an attached waist belt that fastens with a hook and eye. The bodice is lined in brown polished cotton. There are two small bones on each side of the bodice to help support and shape the waist and bust. The bodice is completely hand-sewn. There is a wool flannel dress protector attached to each underarm.

The bodice is in the great overall condition the only thing to note is that the topmost button is missing. There is also one hook and eye missing to completely fasten up the belt. These are small things and do not take away from how fun and lovely this top truly is.
