Edwardian Antique Orange Organdy Gown With Train Beading
This is a lovely Edwardian late 1900s orange gown made of cotton organdy that is lined in a burnt orange silk taffeta. The gown has a high collar made of a bobbinet backed in silk taffeta. The collar has stays to help hold its shape and is covered in gorgeous beading with clear silvery beads and white iridescent gelatin sequins. The bobbinet continues down into a scooped bib that is also highly decorated. The center also has metallic embroidered flowers surrounded by silvery white bugle beads. The bib is connected to the dress with tatted lace trim that has a bit of fringe. The dress is from the late 1900s so it has a more fitted silhouette but still has the dramatic āSā bend silhouette. The bodice is padded with cotton batting in the lining. There is also a scooping decorative band that runs under the bust with beading and sequins that helps enhance the silhouette. The gown has long sleeves that are ruched and gathered the whole way down with decorative cuffs and tatted lace trim. The waist is fitted and has a few gathers before it flows into the skirt. The skirt is A-line with a slight train with most of the volume in the back. The hem has two large pintucks and the hem is backed in taffeta. The dress fastens up the back with hooks and eyes and the lining is boned around the bust to help keep the shape.
Condition:
The dress does have some issues. The exterior of the dress is in great condition overall with a slight stain on the front with a pencil eraser-sized hole. Those are the only flaws on the exterior of the dress. The lining is where all the issues are. The burnt orange taffeta lining is shredding. It has large tears in the arms and under the boning in the skirt. The shredding is throughout the lining. It could be removed or replaced if desired.
