Christian Dior Le Connaisseur Nightgown White Polyester Short A-Line by Christian Dior

Christian Dior Le Connaisseur Nightgown White Polyester Short A-Line by Christian Dior

The designer name "Christian Dior" always signals a desirable piece to have in your vintage lingerie wardrobe. Babydoll length, this Christian Dior Le Connaisseur nightgown was Made in the USA with an ILGWU Union logo on the fabric content tag. It is a shiny white polyester subtle floral pattern-on pattern fabric with lace. Sheer chiffon is used for the sleeve cuffs and those are further accented by pretty scalloped edge lace, satin ribbon, a small satin bow and tiny white beads in the center of the fabric flower.

The fabric tag reads "100% Polyester, Made in USA of imported fabric, RN 14242, Size Medium". The grey ILGWU Union label also appears here and shows this is machine washable.

Although this is marked as a size Medium, I find that the sizing is generous. Please refer to the measurements below to assure a good fit.

Here are the measurements:
Bust ~~~ Fits to 46 inches
Waist ~~~ 50 inches
Armhole opening ~~~ 22 inches
Full Length ~~~ 30 inches
Hemline Width ~~~ 68 inches

The body of the gown is a single layer in a slight A-line shape and the hemline is gently curved and accented with a narrow row of flat white lace.

Made with quality and remaining in Very Good vintage condition, this is a lovely nightgown that can be worn over and over. The only issue I can find to report is that it was worn and laundered often by the original owner, as evidenced by the faded fabric content tag.

All the seams are intact and there are no stains, tears or holes.

Freshly laundered, this comes to you from a pet-free, smoke-free home.

Christian Dior was one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. From 1941 through 1946, Dior worked at Lucien Lelong. While there he attracted the attention of textile maker Marcel Boussac, who became Dior’s financial backer.

In the spring of 1947 Dior showed his first major collection, the ā€œCorolleā€ line, which came to be known as the ā€œNew Lookā€. The ā€œNew Lookā€ was made up of long, full skirts and a nipped-in waist that called for the use of a corset. Dior continued to be a major force in the fashion world in the 1950s, with a new silhouette each season, including the Princess line of 1951, the ā€œHā€ line of 1954, and the ā€œAā€ and ā€œYā€ lines of 1955. After Dior’s death in 1958, his assistant, Yves Saint Laurent, became the head designer at Dior.

I love this quote from Dior, which defines his style sense: ā€œI created flower women with gentle shoulders and generous bosoms, with tiny waists like stems and skirts belling out like petals.ā€ Doesn't that quote make even more sense when you look at one of the Dior garments like this beautiful gown?
