70s Psychedelic Hippie Kitsch Afghan

Ah, Christmas 1972. That was the year Sherry and Jim gave everybody in their family afghans inspired by the shag rug in their basement. This is one such afghan, lovingly inscribed for the receiver by Sherry and Jim and, obviously, never used because it's still got that inscription pinned to it. A shame for the recipient, but lucky for you, the collector of 70s kitsch decor. This thing is fire. Almost literally. It's the colors of fire: orange, brown, white. It's 100% wool, not acrylic. I'm a veteran knitter and I can't quite figure out what Sherry did, here (or Jim--hey, maybe Jim was a fibre artist. It was the 70s, after all.). Is it woven? Is it knitted? It looks like it's woven.

Don't ask questions. Just snuggle down into the conversation pit and drape this bad boy over your lap. Sherry and Jim are heating up the fondue pot. They've queued up Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, and they've got the key bowl out. Just relax, man. Relax.
