60s Hong Kong Chunky Embroidered Floral Cardigan by Charles & Co

1960s Hong Kong was the capital of wonderful sweaters for all time. You probably have a beaded gem from then. They also did beautiful embroidery--and chunky embroidery, much loved at the time. This sweater is a perfect example, with its fat, loopy flowers and winding stems. Not the buttons covered in the same knit.

I think the flowers may be marigolds, but they might also be a fantasy blossom.

Condition of this wool sweater (possibly with some other fiber mixed in; it's nice and soft) is vintage very good to excellent. I can't find a flaw on the outside, other than perhaps a petal that is a little bigger than the others. The off-white base and collar are very clean.

The lining has a couple of small issues. If this were my sweater to keep, I'd just remove the lining (I like all sweaters better without it anyway). It's coming away in a few places, as pictured--something very easy to fix. And it has a mysterious pale yellow discoloration around the edge. It doesn't look like a perspiration stain; it's very faint and actually yellow. I've included a photo.

Again, easy to take the lining out, and the sweater will look as if had been made that way!

It's marked a size 42, which should mean that a 42-inch bust can go inside, but I would probably keep it at a bit below--depending on how you like your fit. It's rare to find such a sweater in a size beyond small!

From a nonsmoking, pet-loving environment.
