50s Mint Black Fur Saucer Platter Hat Breakfast At Tiffanys Museum Quality by Phil Strann of California

This hat should not be worn..it should be in a Museum! It looks exactly like the hat in the famous Irving Penn/ Richard Avedon series of photographs for Vogue in the 50's. I doubt it was ever worn. Perhaps it was worn once and then put away. I found it in Las Vegas, about 15 years ago. I never wore it, and it has been in a box with tissue paper, ever since. The hat is in perfect MINT condition, inside and out. The inside of the low crown is lined in gold taffeta, and edged in gold lace. The body of the hat is brushed fur, similar to a fancy man's top hat. ...so perhaps beaver. There is a sturdy buffed satin ribbon that rings the crown, and splits into two. There are two velvet covered Hair Grips. The hat is perfectly circular and level, with no bends in the wire rim. An amazing, amazing piece!
Originally I was going to price this at $500, but I see that Phil Strann hats usually go for less, but this hat is practically new. So I am lowering my first intuitive price which is based on superb quality and rarity, to be more in line with this designer.
